Ik leg uit wat de bedoeling is, met welke camera´s ik ga schieten en wat ik van hem verwacht. Hij vindt het allemaal best, laat zich gemakkelijk regisseren. Dit is één van de drukste mannen van Nederland, maar hij wekt de indruk op de veranda te zitten met een wijntje.

Na de laatste klik is hij meteen weer weg. Een ambtenaar praat hem snel bij voor de volgende vergadering. Hij is dus echt druk. Ik pak mijn flitsers in en kijk nog één keer rond. Zijn e-mailprogramma staat open. Zal ik…?

Many people think running a marathon is not good for your body. Many people think marathon runners are a bit crazy. My book ‘face the distance’ proves them wrong!

I set up a studio flash right after the finishing line of some nice winter marathons here in the Netherlands. I then asked runners who crossed the line to pose for me in a comfortable chair.

What you get is a stunning and intense portrait of a tired but proud athlete. In most faces you feel the energy of the accomplishment.

Job Cohen, Amsterdam

As the most of you may know, Ivo Opstelten is no longer the Mayor of Rotterdam. To honour him for giving his best to the city for 10 years Trea van Vliet decided to having a book published.

I was given the honour to contribute 15 black & white portraits of people close to Opstelten. Among them his Amsterdam counterpart Job Cohen (photo), his wife and his friends Jules Deelder and Frans Weisglas. I included the images in my portfolio.
